Haha! Trick question. Because the answer is “it depends.”

I am, as a dev editor, coach, and teacher, constantly pushing the importance of an emotional arc for characters. That’s the way we connect with readers, that’s the way we get them to turn the page. If I care, I’m inclined to want to keep going.
